Week Six: Researching Teen Clubs, Groups and Organisations

I have started to do some more work on the website as to how I could design it by looking at other clubs that share a target audience with the CoderDojo, so kids and teens aged between 8 to 17. So I looked at other CoderDojos around Ireland to see what websites they had and what information they were supplying i.e. what students should bring, how they were selling the club and if they had anything that stands out on their sites. Overall they were pretty much the same, they were all basic white bootstrap templates, they did have good information on them, very straight to the point. So I started looking at other clubs for teen girls and boys. The content on these sites was using older, and good looking people as role models to get the interest of teens. Design of these sites were very trendy, using soft colors, great images, and typography.

So I came to the conclusion that most of the coderdojos where using their sites more to give information and not for encouraging or advertising the need for more members of other clubs. I think that this might be a bit of a waste as it could be used to more to the ends of advertising to girls, as from the information from our supervisor so far, and my own research on the CoderDojo as a hole is that they are lactating in female members and mentors. So why not use a website to advertise to females how fun and interesting coding and technology can be? And we can do a big campaign on Facebook and in some local schools with posters and flyers to show off a trendy coding and using technology can be, and we could find some trendy and good looking people in the industry as role model to appeal to more young people.

Here are some of the sites I have used in my research on the designs and information of teen clubs:
